The title for this year’s CAMPFIRE Symposium was “Green Ammonia as Key to Decarbonization and Prosperity in Europe: From Import Vector to Resilient Energy Storage,” held at the Representation of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to the Federal Government in Berlin. The event was moderated by Ulrich Walter, with a welcome address from our host Josefine Meyer. The symposium kicked off with a great opening speech by Rob Stevens from the Ammonia Energy Association, which was a great honor for us. This was followed by exciting keynote speeches on ammonia as a game changer for replacing fossil fuels and ensuring resilience and security of supply, delivered to around 70 participants from industry, leading research institutes, and environmental organizations. A rather sobering prediction on the trend of global warming sparked lively debates on how we urgently need to view possibilities and future value chains based on ammonia in a much more comprehensive way on a global scale.
A highlight of the symposium was the ammonia bunkering ship “Odin,” anchored on the river Spree near the German Parliament and open to all visitors who would like to see for themselves how ammonia is traded and transported safely. The „Odin“ will be retrofitted with an ammonia ICE in 2028.
The symposium was rounded off by a parliamentary breakfast with the participation of Dr. Stefan Kaufmann, as well as a public acceptance survey on ammonia conducted by the Agency for Renewable Energies (AEE) at Berlin Friedrichstrasse station. It revealed very urgent todos to bring more information and knowledge about ammonia to people and politics.

Thank you Rebus Regionalbus Rostock GmbH for transporting us by hydrogen bus. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, we are very proud of this pioneering bus company, operating 52 busses in GREATER ROSTOCK — the second largest H2 bus fleet in Germany.
Thank You to Jürgen Sendel for the brilliant photos of our event — perfectly capturing all moments of debates and discussions that are so very important to not lose sight of our sustainability goals and to continue our hard work in partnership.
