24 February 2020. A kick-off meeting for a new regional green ferry connection was organised by CAMPFIRE, the University of Greifswald and the Hanseatic City of Greifswald, and took place on 24 February 2020 at INP. The meeting brought together a range of stakeholders interested in establishing a zero-emission shipping connection between Greifswald’s Museum Harbour, the former fishing village of Wieck and Ludwigsburg Castle as part of a programme to boost sustainable tourism in the coastal region. The goal is to create a route that will allow a zero-emission ferry to travel approximately 5 kilometres down the Ryck River and 3 km across the Danish Wieck (‘Danish Bay’) in the Bodden (‘Bay’) of Greifswald. The partners received important insight into the implementation of a ferry connection using fuel cells and hydrogen from Professor Gerd Holbach of the Institute of Land and Sea Transport Systems – Ship and Marine Technology at the Technical University of Berlin. We would like to thank Professor Holbach and all other meeting participants for the inspiring discussions and look forward to further cooperation.
