As part of the 14th Trilateral Wadden Sea Conference, where representatives of federal and state authorities from the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany discussed further action to protect the Wadden Sea, an exciting side event on the WATTfossilfrei project took place at the Logenhaus Wilhelmshaven. Various suppliers of fossil-free propulsion concepts such as Torqeedo and GPJoule presented their emission-free concepts. Together, Moritz Jösch, HanseYachts AG, Jens Wartmann, ZBT and Angela Kruth, INP, presented technologies for the decarbonization of small and recreational shipping. The focus was on the solutions developed in the CF07 project for a propulsion system and ship design of an ammonia-powered “life-style” sport yacht, as well as an ammonia-based supply concept for small and recreational shipping with e‑drives. Also important here are discussions on the possible environmental impact of ammonia on the delicate balance of the land and water ecosystems of the UNESCO Wadden Sea National Park. We would like to thank Christian Bahlke from the WATTfossilfrei project for the invitation and were very pleased to exchange ideas about future cooperations during the very interesting event.
