Our this year’s partner workshop of the product category 2 generation of green ammonia took place in the new schooling room of the industrial park of YARA GmbH & Co KG in Poppendorf . Discussions of the approximately 30 participants moderated by Prof. Udo Kragl, Institute of Chemistry at University of Rostock, and Dr. Walther Benzinger, Institute of Mikroprocess Technologies (IMVT) at
Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) focused on core components of the decentralized Haber-Bosch plants developed in CAMPFIRE. Dr. Torsten Brinkmann from Hereon Helmholtz Zentrum Geesthacht gave an impressive impulse on innovative membranes for reactant and product gas separation. A very interesting and clear presentation by Thomas Painter from IKEM on the recommendations for action for the approval of NH3 synthesis plants was a great impuls with a following discussion. An important contribution was also given by Dirk Kohoutek, MAXIMATOR GmbH, on high pressure compressors for hydrogen and ammonia technologies. These are core components in CAMPFIRE decentralized Haber-Bosch plants in the CF06 product line, on which Dr. Stefan Käding, ENERTRAG AG gave an overview. In World Café-style discussion rounds, the participants further exchanged on the technical aspects and new ideas on upstream and reactor technology. During the very interesting tour of the YARA industrial site, the partners also visited the planned area of the Poppendorf Technology Center — Green Ammonia ChemPark and the nitric acid and fertilizer production plant, where we had an impressive view through the viewing window of a gigantic ammonia burner. We would like to thank all partners and guests for the exciting workshop and YARA for the hospitality.
