CAMPFIRE Workshop Product Category 2 Production of Green Ammonia on 10 November 2022 in Rostock-Poppendorf

Our this year’s partner work­shop of the product cate­gory 2 gene­ra­tion of green ammonia took place in the new schoo­ling room of the indus­trial park of YARA GmbH & Co KG in Poppen­dorf . Discus­sions of the appro­xi­m­ately 30 parti­ci­pants mode­rated by Prof. Udo Kragl, Insti­tute of Chemistry at Univer­sity of Rostock, and Dr. Walther Benzinger, Insti­tute of Mikro­pro­cess Tech­no­lo­gies (IMVT) at
Karls­ruher Institut für Tech­no­logie (KIT) focused on core compon­ents of the decen­tra­lized Haber-Bosch plants deve­loped in CAMPFIRE. Dr. Torsten Brink­mann from Hereon Helm­holtz Zentrum Geest­hacht gave an impres­sive impulse on inno­va­tive membranes for reac­tant and product gas sepa­ra­tion. A very inte­res­ting and clear presen­ta­tion by Thomas Painter from IKEM on the recom­men­da­tions for action for the appr­oval of NH3 synthesis plants was a great impuls with a follo­wing discus­sion. An important contri­bu­tion was also given by Dirk Kohoutek, MAXIMATOR GmbH, on high pres­sure compres­sors for hydrogen and ammonia tech­no­lo­gies. These are core compon­ents in CAMPFIRE decen­tra­lized Haber-Bosch plants in the CF06 product line, on which Dr. Stefan Käding, ENERTRAG AG gave an over­view. In World Café-style discus­sion rounds, the parti­ci­pants further exch­anged on the tech­nical aspects and new ideas on upstream and reactor tech­no­logy.  During the very inte­res­ting tour of the YARA indus­trial site, the part­ners also visited the planned area of the Poppen­dorf Tech­no­logy Center — Green Ammonia Chem­Park and the nitric acid and ferti­lizer produc­tion plant, where we had an impres­sive view through the viewing window of a gigantic ammonia burner.
