In April, our second joint project in the product category PK1 CF05_1 “Development of an autothermal, quick-start ammonia membrane reactor based on mixed-conducting thin-film oxygen membranes for optimised processing of ammonia as a carbon-free maritime fuel” started and is funded with ca. 1.2 million € by BMBF WIR over a project duration of 24 months. The partners ZBT, INP, LIKAT and IKTS are developing components for a quick-start NH3 membrane reactor under the coordination of ZBT. Mixed electronic and oxygen ion-conducting thin-layer membranes form the core of the reactor, which is also intended to enable thermal catalytic cracking by means of the reaction heat generated. With an output of 7 kW and a temperature of 650 °C, a hydrogen efficiency of over 90 % is targeted.
