Description:
The EU project HiPowAR is a joint European project of the CAMPFIRE alliance and is being carried out by the partners Maston AB (Sweden), Ranotor (Sweden), University Politecnico di Milano (Italy), Center for Fuel Cell Technology (ZBT, Germany) and Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems (IKTS, Germany) under the coordination of the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Science and Technology (INP, Germany).
The aim of HiPowAR is to develop a novel membrane-based oxyfuel process for the use of ammonia as a fuel in turbines. The process “Highly Efficient Power Production by Green Ammonia Total Oxidation in a Membrane Reactor” represents a leap forward in innovation and combines know-how from the field of fuel cells and oxygen permeation with classic combustion processes to realize a self-compressing combustion process. As part of the project, the novel ammonia membrane reactor is being implemented as a proof-of-concept at pressures above 50 bar in a containerized functional model. This enables efficient conversion of the fuel without the addition of supporting fuels.
